Prioritize Hand Hygiene

Updated: May 24, 2023

Hand hygiene is a crucial component in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, including the current COVID-19 pandemic. To make hand hygiene a priority, you can follow these steps: Wash your hands often: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before and after eating, after using the bathroom, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing, and touching frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs, doorknobs, or public transportation. Use hand sanitizer: If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content to kill germs on your hands. Make sure you rub the sanitizer on all surfaces of your hands until they are dry. Avoid touching your face: Your hands come into contact with many surfaces throughout the day, so it's important to avoid touching your face, mouth, nose and eyes with unwashed hands. Encourage others: You can help make hand hygiene a priority by encouraging others to wash their hands regularly and offering hand sanitizer when available. Stay Informed: Stay up-to-date on the latest guidance from health organizations like the CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO) on how to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Remember, hand hygiene is a simple yet effective way to protect yourself and others from getting sick. By making it a priority in your daily routine, you can help prevent the spread of infectious disease and keep yourself and your community healthy.
